As the 2019 presidential election lies barely 72 hours away, the rulling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been thrown into shock following the proclamation by thier National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the opposition party PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar is his friend.
Tinubu had surprisingly posed for a photo-op with PDP supporters and stunned the party hierachy by failing to turn up at the APC rally in Abuja.
This comes after the Ogun rally where an evidently irate Tinubu flung away an APC flag after Buhari and Oshiomhole were pelted with stones by angry rally attendees.
Anyway, in a reaction to the video, Bola Tinubu through his media aide said:
”If the issue of the flag has become the hotspot of the PDP campaign, then they are in serious trouble.
“During that portion of the Ogun rally, the National Chairman and others were looking for a party flag.
”I spotted one within my reach. I picked it up and attempted to toss it to the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole so that the Chairman can present it to the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
“If you want to fault me for anything in this matter, your critique can only be limited to the accuracy of my toss.
“Any attempt to enlarge the episode beyond this is fiction and mischief writ large, ” he said.
Tinubu is said to be infuriated by Buhari’s seeming double standards in his proclamation at the Ogun rally that the voters can vote any candidate of their choice in the governorship election but should vote him for president.
The seeming endorsement of Atiku by Tinubu does not come as a surprise as they both share a long history back to the days of Abiola’s SDP where both men in the trenches fighting against military dictatorship. Both Tinubu and Atiku showed their disdain for the impunity of a military democrat, Olusegun Obasanjo by teaming up to form the Alliance Congres In the buildup to the 2007 elections. Atiku Abubakar was the presidential flag bearer of the party wielding the broomstick long before Buhari, a man who truncated Nigeria’s democracy in December 1983 joined the APC.
