Playwright Who Wrote “Sizwe Banzi is Dead” Dies aged 76

Renowned South African playwright, Winston Ntshona who wrote popular play “Sizwe Banzi is Dead” has died at the age of 76.

Ntshina was best known for his role in Athol Fugard’s “The Island” in which he starred alongside fellow actor John Kani. Surprisingly, Kani and Ntshona won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for their work as co-awardees. 

Ntshona also won the Lifetime Achievement Award for Acting at the 2011 SAFTAS.
