State governor bans online gambling

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has ordered a clampdown on online betting activities in his state. While speaking at the 14th annual Ramadan lecture organized by Borno Radio Television Corporation in Maiduguri on Sunday, the governor  said the state government will take proactive measures in addressing the adverse effects of online gambling as well as drug abuse and other social vices.

He said:

“I have given directives to all Bet-Naija and Nairabet agents in the state to leave immediately. Drug and substance abuse gives birth to all immoral vices hence government’s determination to fight all forms of social vices.”

This means that henceforth, betting outlets like Bet9ja, Nairabet and Merrybet will halt it’s operations in the Northern eastern state.
