Benue: Mass burial for two Catholic priests and 17 others killed by Fulani herdsmen 


The venue State government on Tuesday May 22 accords a mass burial to the two Catholic priests and 17 other killed in an attack by Fulani herdsmen. 

The priests,  Rev. Joseph Gor and Rev. Felix Tyolaha and 17 other parishioners were killed by suspected herdsmen at Ukpor, Mbalom community in the Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on April 24.

In the light of this, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has declared Tuesday a public holiday  to honour those killed in the attacks.

Also,  Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria has also directed all Catholic faithful across the country to embark on a peaceful and prayerful protest, tagged, ‘March for Life,’ on Tuesday.

Armed herdsmen had invaded a Catholic Church, St. Ignatius Catholic Church at Ayar Mbalom in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State about  and killed two priests and 17 other worshipers during an early morning mass. Among the victims were two school head teachers and a secondary school principal, identified as Peter Dick, Ape Chia and Michael Tor.
