Nigerian army is not good at propaganda – Babajide Otitoju

Veteran Nigerian journalist, Babajide Otitoju has blasted the Nigerian Army for their flawed propaganda and complicity in the Fulani herdsmen attacks in Benue State. He said “The Nigerian army is not good at propaganda.” Adding that “They always leave yawning gaps every time they spin a story.”

This follows the arrest of Aliyu Teshaku,  the leader of Benue Livestock Guards, the group enforcing the ‘Anti Open Grazing Law.’ in the state.  After his arrest,  Aliyu Teshaku was accused of being a Boko Haram terrorist by the Nigerian Army.

Babajide posted on his facebook wall blasting the military. He said:

“The Nigerian army is not good at propaganda. They always leave yawning gaps every time they spin a story. Sometime ago they paraded a kola nut and aphrodisiac seller and called him Boko haram sponsor!. The same army that announced two weeks ago that it had arrested 162 Fulani herdsmen over the killings in Benue,  Taraba and Nasarawa states announced yesterday that it had arrested,  Aminu,  a key Boko Haram suspect and said he was behind recent killings in Benue state.

“In a statement issued on Friday by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Major Olabisi Ayeni said that the arrest was made possible through combined troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade, Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services in Makurdi.

“He added that Aminu had concluded plans with his cohorts in Bauchi, Borno, Yobe and Nasarawa states to launch a major attack on innocent citizens in Benue State.       An army that lied that it successfully rescued University of Maiduguri lecturers FROM BOKO HARAM can not wrongfoot me. Just stop the killings. That’s our main concern.  Whether the killings are political or they are by Boko haram just stop the embarrassing shedding of blood.”
