Two people killed in Enugu market as Fulani and Igbo traders clash over five hundred naira

Two people were confirmed dead at Gariki market in Enugu late Wednesday after a disagreement between two traders degenerated into violence.

Angry traders in the market lynched a Fulani trader and burnt down a Mosque after the Fulani trader allegedly stabbed an Igbo trader over a disagreement.

An argument ensued at the abattoir area of the market after the Fulani trader offered to pay ₦400 naira to the Igbo trader  for a slaughter but the Igbo trader insisted on collecting ₦500.

The Police Public Relations of Officer (PPRO) of Enugu State Command, Ebere Amaraizu, while confirming the incident, said that anti riot police were immediately deployed to the market to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
