Rangers FC of Enugu emerges champions of Nigerian Professional Football League after 32 years


Rangers Football Club of Enugu have won the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after 32 years following a 2-1 victory over Ikorodu United at the  MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Goals from Obinna Nwobodo in the First Half and  Chisom Egbuchulam in the Second Half put the Flying Antelopes tutored by Imama Amapakabo at the  zenith of the league table at 60 points while closest rivals Rivers United were held to a 0-0 draw by Abia Warriors.  Rangers lead Rivers United by three points and a superior goal difference.

They will be crowned champions of the NPFL 2015/2016 season even if they loose they last game and title  contenders win with a goal margin of 5-0.

Rangers FC had a not so impressive run last season but returned blazing hot from their very first game this season.

In other fixtures, relegation threatened Heartland FC of Owerri defeated Kano Pillars 1-0 to steer clear of the relegation waters. Wikki Tourists of Buchi lost 1-0 against Shooting Stars of Ibadan, while Akwa United and Nasarawa United were held to a  2-2. Meanwhile, MFM Football Club lost 3-1 to Niger Tornadoes.
