Dream Team VI: Abandoned but victorious, wins Nigeria’s only medal at Rio Olympics

The Samson Siasia tutored U-23 side beat Honduras 3-2 to win the bronze medal at the Rio Olympics.

Thier victory salvaged Nigeria’s  Olympic medal drought since 2008 despite the difficulties they faced before and during  the games began due to financial inadequacies

Despite being trapped in Atlanta due to the inability of Nigeria to provide a chattered flight for them and arriving the Olympic just few minutes to their first game, the Dream Team VI kept fighting on till they clinched the Bronze Medal.

The team has received a good number of support and goodwill by a good number of well spirited individuals and organizations.

First the team captain John Mikel Obi had repeatedly dolled out cash to support the team as the government had failed to provide money for the team in good time.

Also, Delta Airlines intervened when they were stranded in Atlanta and flew the team from to the Olympics in Brazil to save them from the embarrassment of missing their first game.

After winning the Gold Medal at the Rio Olympics, a japanese Surgeon, Dr. Katsuya Takasu made good his promise of handing the team $390,000. $200,000 for coach Siasia and $190,000 for team captain Mikel obi.
