The Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has promised the National U-23 side – Dream Team VI that all their outstanding allowances will be paid. This comes after the head coach of the squad, Samson Siaisia, complained that the players currently at the Rio 2016 Olympics had refused to train on Thursday due to unpaid allowances and wages.
“We will do all we can to ensure that all entitlements due to the team are paid, as we are already talking to relevant government agencies”, Dogara promised.
“We will stop at nothing to ensure that we get the team to excel in Brazil and for Nigeria to recreate the watershed of Atlanta ’96.”
The Sports Minister Solomon Dalung also promised to pay all their allowances before the quarter final clash with Denmark.on Saturday.He was also optimistic that the team would repeat the Atlanta ’96 feat by winning the gold medal in the male football category at the ongoing Olympics.
