Tell us about yourself
My name is Agbo Victor Chinonso, but I’m popularly known as “Victor Agbo”, or Just “Agbo”. I’m from Enugu state and I’m a singer.
How long you have been singing?
Well, December 2014 was the first time I recorded a song in the studio after which I shared the song with people. Before then, it was just an indoor thing. So I’ll say I “actually started” singing about one year and seven months ago.
Describe your kind of music
I’ll simply say I’m a Gospel artist. You should expect some other inspirational and love songs. But I’m a Gospel artist. My aim is just to minister to the world in every way possible
Did someone inspire you to be a musician?
Of cause! A whole lot of them! Some bands are just amazing you know. You can’t listen to Coldplay, Casting Crowns, Hillsong United or The Script and remain the same. It hits you like magic. But I’ll say the major people that made me want to be a musician are Jason Mraz, Brymo,Timi Dakolo and Zayed Hassan.I know most people in Nigeria don’t know Zayed, but he has been a great source of inspiration. He’s from Bangladesh, stays in Dhaka and his compositions are just awesome. They all inspired me in different ways.
I play the acoustic guitar. Don’t expect an exceptional finger movement o. But I play sha.
Is there someone who you look up to?
Jason Mraz! It just has to be Jason Mraz.
Tell us about your new single Not Just For Me
Not Just for Me is a song about you and me, how our actions affects us and the world we live in. It’s a song that is there to awaken that consciousness that regardless of how trivial or menial you think what you do is, it affects someone else one way or the other. You know, our actions just go round like a chain reaction. We’re all connected. We really are. And I’m glad I featured Ogochukwu in it. She did a really good job.
Tell us about your next single Still Working on Me
Still Working on Me is a song that’s there to remind us that God is always faithful. A song to boost our trust in God and to give us courage to move on even when it seems like everything is falling apart. It’s a song of hope. That’s it.
When is it dropping?
No particular date yet, but it’s definitely going to drop before the end of 2016.
Any plans for releasing your debut album?
Well, expect an album in the very near future
Ok away from music now. Do you have a celeb crush?
Gadammit! Did you really have to ask this! Well, no be bad thing sha. Sure I do. Genevieve Nnaji, she’s just awesome you know. She really is a very good actor, and she’s always looking stunning! But I recently got an additional crush though. A’rese, I no even fit pronounce her full name, but the one I sab I dey okay. And yes, it is the same A’rese from The Voice Nigeria. I Loove her.
.What could you say is your favourite fashion item?
My wrist watch; believe me, if you ever see me outside without it, just know that right there where I am, I’m so uncomfortable.
And your favourite colour?
Your female fans would definitely want to know this. Are you taken or still single & searching?
I’m very single o. So don’t get it twisted when you see them around. You know what I mean.
What do you do apart from music?
I’m also a banker and I act too. Actually I just concluded a movie, an incredible movie. The movie had in it Zack Orji, Melvin Oduah,Kalu George, Justice Slik, Sochima Ezeoke and Chinwe Owoh in it and it was directed by the awesome Tolu ‘Lord Tanner’ Awobiyi . The title is “Cardiac Arrest”. It is currently in the post production phase. So look out for it. Believe me, it’s going to be a hit.
What are your hobbies?
I love singing, acting, composing songs, hanging out with friends and visiting new places.
Is there someone you would to collaborate with in the future?
Cobhams Asuquo is someone I’m really looking forward to working with someday. He is full of wonders.
Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
Few years from now, I see a lot of what I dream of coming true. I have come to realize that with hard work, dreams will definitely come true, you know. So with the work I’m putting in now, I see myself in a few years bringing to life my city of dreams. I see myself out there shaking the world with my music, and I see the world dancing to the rhythm of the quake and rejoicing that I’m there, doing my thing.
There are so many new artists struggling to make headways in the Nigerian music industry. What words of advice do you have for them?
Just like I said before; hard work is the key, it’s all the magic you need to get to where you want to be. Just “consistently” work towards it and stay focused, don’t allow anyone tell you cannot do it. Keep working and you’ll see everything working out.
Got any word for your fans out there?
All I have to say is this; biko, stay connected. I’ll continue to make songs that will be pleasing to your soul, there’s no going back. So keep looking out for more hits from Victor Agbo! I promise I won’t let you down. Muchas Gracias!
