Charles Okah was not part of prison break at Kuje Prison – Prison Spokesman

In the early hours of today, Sahara Reporters broke the untrue story that suspected mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombings, Charles Okah had escaped from the Kuje Maximum Security Prison. As it turns out, there was indeed a prison break at the Kuje prison but Okah was not a part of it.

According to a Nigerian Prison Service spokesperson, Francis Enobore, there was a jail break on Friday night but that the brother of Henry Okah, jailed leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) Charles Okah was not among those that escaped.
Enobore said: “Yes there was an incident yesterday, but Okah was not involved.”
“It is not true, Charles Okah is still in custody. I have been in touch with our men in the prison facility and there is nothing like that (Okah escaping),” Enobore said.‎

“The Comptroller of prisons has ordered an investigation and that is going on. We want to know if anybody escaped and if yes, what are their identities,” he added.
