The governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom is currently under investigation by the EFCC over some allegations of misappropriation of public funds.
According to a source an investigation into the matter has already commenced and some persons close to the government are being investigated in relation to the cash transfers.
While confirming the report, an EFCC official said the commission “received petitions against Governor Ortom and other dramatis personae over alleged diversion and other financial infractions.”
We have also commenced investigation into the veracity of the petitions. And I can also tell you that the commission will soon take neclaimsy action on the matter
The petitions also implicated some high ranking officials in the National Assembly and State House of Assembly.
Due to the immunity covering governors in Nigeria, Gov. Ortom will not be invited for questioning by the EFCC but those not covered by immunity were already being interrogated in connection with the fraudulent transactions.
The governor however denied the claims. Through a statement by the governor’s chief press secretary, Terver Akase, he said the report was not only false but also a demonstration of mischief and ignorance by the authors of the petitions.
