Man who killed 50 and injured 48 at a U.S gay club identified


50 people were confirmed dead while about 48 were injured when a man opened fire in a gay club in Orlando. USA. The shooter has been identified by police as Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old American born to Afghan parents.


The police is yet to establish a motive for the killings which a police rep describes as “organized and well-prepared.”

The Mayor of the city Buddy Dyer said he has asked Florida governor to declare a  state of emergency because of the magnitude of the crime.

“Today we’re dealing with something that we never imagined and is unimaginable,” he said. He added that there was “an enormous amount of havoc” and “blood everywhere”.

“Because of the scale of the crime I’ve asked the [Florida] governor to declare a state of emergency,” he said.

“We’re also issuing a state of emergency for the city of Orlando so that we can bring additional resources to bear to deal with the aftermath.”
