How fraudstars cloned the phone number of Lagos State governor Akinwunmi Ambode

Two cocoa farmers in Lagos have been remanded in prison custody after they allegedly cloned the mobile number of governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
Jamiu Rilwanu and Oyewole Balogun, cocoa farmers cum fraudstars using the cloned line of governor Ambode attempted to withdraw N50 million from the account of the Lagos state government.
Mr. Peter Okerinmodun of the Department of State Services (DSS), said the men “used the cloned mobile line of the governor to send a text message to the Accountant General of the state requesting a transfer of N50m.”
One would wonder how someone can clone a line. But if you think if it, it is as easy as ABC. One doesn’t have to be a genius to clone a line.
You just have to login to any bulk SMS platform, type your message and type the phone number you want to ‘clone’ as the sender’s ID.
No rocket science, no big deal. The DSS are making a mountain out of a mole hill.
Come to think of it, the guys involved are just petty thieves who wanted to try out a few tricks that can never work. Except the governor is in the habit of requesting for money to be transfered from the government account through SMS.
Well, let’s keep our fingers crossed as the boys chill in Kirikiri till May 10, 2016 when the case will be heard in court.
