Actors Guild of Nigeria AGN President Ibinabo Fiberesima is on her way to prison. The actress could be spending the next five years in prison as the Court of Appeal today upheld a 5-year prison sentence for manslaughter.
Back in 2005, Ibinabo was involved in an accident that claimed the life of a medical doctor. She was said to be drunk driving as her vehicle skidded off her lane and rammed into the vehicle of Dr. Giwa Suraj along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
A Magistrate Court found her guilty and sentenced her to five years imprisonment with an option of N100,000 fine.
She paid the fine and walked away a free woman.
The Lagos state government not satisfied with the judgement of the Magistrate Court took the case to the High Court. The ruling of the Magistrate Court was upturned and her N100,000 was returned to her while she was handed a five years prison sentence.
Ibinabo then headed to the Appeal Court which upheld the judgment of the High Court today March 11, 2016.
The AGN President is now appealing against the ruling to the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court upholds the judgement of the Appeal Court, Ibinabo will be on her way to serve her five years prison sentence in Kirikiri.
