The on-going nationwide tour of Nigeria’s premium comedy show, Glo Laffta Fest, sponsored by next generation telecommunication operator, Globacom has won the hearts of telecoms subscribers in Owerri, Imo state, as residents of the town clamour for the return of the show which took place on Sunday, November 29.
Prior to the commencement of the event earlier in the day, some of the residents of Owerri Municipal were seen at various locations discussing the show and the comedians billed to perform.
At the ‘Ama Hausa’ area, taxi drivers, ‘Keke Napep’ operators and recharge card vendors while carrying out their businesses discussed in groups in the native Owerri Igbo dialect, that the show would be explosive as they had seen some of the comedians including Basket Mouth and Okey Bakassi arrive.
One of them, Nnamdi Oluigbo, a taxi driver said in Igbo “Ndi Globacom wetara ihe nto ochi ha kporo Lafta Fest n’ala Owerri, nwanne oga di egwu”, meaning that Globacom has brought the Laffta Fest comedy show to Owerri, it will be awesome.
At 1pm, the people of the town had started arriving the Imo International Conference Center, venue of the show, to secure a vantage position in order to have a clear view of their favorite comedians perform at the event which was slated for 4pm.
Basket Mouth, Okey Bakassi, Gordons, Funny Bone, Acapella, Omawumi and Burna Boy who performed at the show didn’t disappoint the teeming crowd who had filled the 5,000 capacity auditorium.
Nkechi Nwokocha, a civil servant working for the Imo State government who has been a Glo subscriber since 2003, said she had waited patiently for the show and that she really had fun. She said it was her first time seeing the Basket Mouth perform live and couldn’t stop laughing.
“For real, I saw Basket Mouth perform live, that guy is just too funny. Globacom should please bring back the show next year. I heard they were at Awka two days ago”.
Globacom in a statement urged subscribers to keep on using Glo as the company was committed to meeting their expectations at all times. Subscribers who wish to attend the show in Nsukka, Aba and Makurdi to use up to N3,000 before the show and send ‘LOL’ and preferred location of the show to “33001”.
