The first executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha has passed on. He at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) Rivers State on Saturday. He died of complications arising from kidney failure, high blood pressure and diabetics. Sources close to his family say the former governor suddenly fell ill and was rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital where he died.
How UK extradition request led to Diepreye Alamieyeseigha’s death
It could be recalled that the United Kingdom recently requested for Alamieyeseigha’s extradition for charges of corruption and money laundering and this stimulated the panic that led to his high pressure that eventually led to his death Alamieyeseigha was pardoned by the Goodluck Jonathan administration after he was convicted of corruption charges.
The said extradition request by the United Kingdom has been seen by many as a political vendetta by the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
