Today marks the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

The Battle of Waterloo is a turning point in European contemporary history.
It was fought on a Sunday, 18th of June 1815, near Waterloo in what is now Belgium. At that time, Waterloo was a part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Napoleon and his army was defeated by the armies of the Seventh coalition under the command of the Duke of Wellington. The joint coalition also comprised of a Prussian Army under the command of Gebhard von Blücher .

After his defeat, Napoleon was banished to the Island of Saint Helena where he spent the last six years of his life.
