Enugu state government to shut down Dream 92.5 fm Enugu

The Enugu state government may have concluded plans to shut down Dream fm Enugu owned by Deputy-Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu for contravening the Enugu master plan.
This comes in wake of the power tussle between the governor and the a deputy Senate president Senator Ike Ekweremadu who is the owner of the radio station.
A letter with reference ENS/ ECTDA/ADM/69/Vol. 11/312 written by the Commissioner for the Enugu Capital Territory and Chairman of Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, Engr. Ikechukwu Ugwuegede and delivered on Monday reads:
Approval for All Telecommunication Masts in Enugu Capital City
“In line with state government policy on Urban Renewal to create an efficient city, Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority in its resolve to create and manage the city infrastructural development in line with the original master plan (sic).
“You are advised to submit your building approval plan to Enugu Capital Development Authority on or before 12th September, 2014.
“Failure to comply with the stated deadline will result in the closure of your programmes.”
However an insider who spoke with Daily Trust believes that the letter is controversial. Saying that the company’s lawyers would study the letter to make some sense out of it. He said: “The heading of the letter talks about approval for telecommunications masts, but the body talks about building plan. So, my thinking is that the management and lawyers would meet in earnest to study the letter and maybe request the ECTDA to clarify.”
It would be recalled that the governor has recently engaged all suspected supporters of Senator Ike Ekeremadu in a fierce battle. Igwe Agana, monarch in Amandim-Olo community in Ezeagu Local Government of Enugu stare was deposed while the recent impeachment of former Deputy-Governor, Sunday Onyebuchi might not be unconnected as the issue.
The governor seems to have a master plan which involves him handing over power to an Nsukka man while he heads for the Senate come 2015.
Coincidentally, the governor comes from Enugu West senatorial zone and that position is presently occupied by Senator Ekweremadu. It is now a complicated affair and interests collide because the Senator would not want to leave the scene without a commiserate office: which is in the government house.
The whole situation if left unchecked may attract more casualties as the governor appears bent on having things done his way.
